The Finest Waterfountain in New York City - Katz's 4
I'm a big fan of pastrami and with Pastrami King in Kew Gardens gone (although Pastrami Queen can be quite good), and Bernstein on Essex history, I go to Katz's for my pastrami. Katz's has been on Ludlow Street since 1888 and aside from superb pastrami and what must be the largest restaurant seating capacity in New York City they have the single coolest water fountain I have ever seen.

A genuine art-deco relic the three shelves store I don't know how many hundred glasses and with three spigots - that's a lot of glasses of water real fast. And it's beautiful and elegant to look at. And the water is cold and we all know water tastes better when it's in a glass.

I tried really hard to figure out a connection to woodworking but I failed. However great design is great design in any medium and I know I learned something useful from seeing this great fountain - I just don't know exactly what.

Art Deco is my favorite design and, with a little planning, I'm sure you can build an appropriate wooden base. Why not? It's just another project to work on!

Joel,

Ah the memories and times and stories that I have experienced in Katz's! If only the club rolls can talk! Incidentilly, the club roll and pastrami is second only to pastrami on rye.
One of the greatest things about Katz's besides the pastrami is the clientel. No where else except maybe McSorley's Ale house can you sit next to a groom and his bride after their wedding, a lady of the evening (hey everyone has to eat sometime and a soldier with a few hours freedom, all at 2:00 AM!
I long for for Houston and Ludlow Street's Joel! Thanks for cheering me up as my day has been made better by the thought of a visit to Katz's for a sandwich, fries and a Dr. Brown's cream soda!
